It seems to me that I use the phrase "burgeoning apparatus" fairly regularly in my writing. It all goes back to my brother and a friend of his who began a story we were all working on with the line, "The night became a burgeoning apparatus." The story went on to involve Abe Lincoln, Private Eye, too...
