I don't recall if I've ever had Kestrel do this sort of poem in the main comic before: I'm pretty sure he has at least one in the Poetic Annex, but everything there takes place "out of continuity," so it doesn't really count...
Anyway, this is another poetic form that I'm convinced I invented. See, when they introduced us to the sonnet for the first time back in high school, they didn't use the phrase "iambic pentameter" to describe the rhythmic scheme of the thing. They just told us "each line has 10 syllables." So I went home and wrote one that night with a sort of limerick rhythm to it: long-short-short-long-short-short-long-short-short-long. Ten syllables, sure, but not a sonnet at all.
This one's actually even a variation on that with a "pick-up beat" at the beginning of each line. Still, here it is. And it seems to have done the trick with the town council, too.
